This piece subtly depicts the 2000km wide sea zone between Australia and New Zealand in the south pacific also known as “The Ditch”.
Silver granules make out the islands of NZ, a diamond Sydney both sitting amongst geometric waves in shades of blue.
The original design was created in silver by masking the pattern, then etching over it with chemicals leaving the indentations. After a mould was made, this piece was cast in fine silver and then covered in glass enamel emphasizing the height differences.
